Open eta.gov.lk, select your language and use its Check Status option. Have the reference from your submission available and enter any requested identifiers only on the official service.
This website has no connection to the government’s application database. We cannot retrieve, accelerate or approve an application. We deliberately do not offer a passport lookup form.
Read the message, not just the email subject
- Acknowledgement: keep it as your submission record. Look for a separate outcome.
- Approval: check the details and conditions, and keep a copy accessible for travel.
- Referral or another instruction: follow the official directions and contact the Department or a Sri Lankan overseas mission as appropriate.
If you cannot find the outcome
Check the email address you entered, your spam folder and the original submission reference. Then use the contact information shown on the official portal. Avoid sending passport images to social media accounts or to websites that merely look official.
If departure is close, speak with the relevant authorities and your airline. Do not create repeated applications simply to see whether one is processed faster; first establish what happened to the existing submission.

Pending, referred, rejected or missing: your next step

Keep the official outcome available
The official sample acknowledgement links a status page where an approved notice can be downloaded. Save that document before travelling. A screenshot of a payment or an agent’s invoice does not replace the decision.
