The short answer

The Sri Lankan High Commission in India confirms a free tourist ETA for 30 days for Indian tourists, with double entry during that period. Apply before departure; free does not mean no application.

Check the purpose and passport first

This page covers tourism with an Indian passport. If you hold another nationality while living in India, use the requirements for the passport you will travel on. A business meeting, employment or study should be checked under its appropriate category rather than assumed to follow the tourist arrangement.

Open the official ETA website directly and read the latest notice. A search advertisement or a travel agent’s receipt is not an official approval.

Prepare families one traveller at a time

Make a row in your private trip notes for each person: passport used, application reference, outcome checked and arrival documents ready. This is especially useful when one adult is organising the entire family trip. Do not assume a child’s permission is covered by an adult’s.

Have each passport in front of you when checking names and dates. Keep the approval accessible offline and share only the details that a legitimate provider needs for a specific booking. This website does not collect passport numbers or application documents.

Understand the 30-day period

The High Commission’s notice permits double entry during the 30-day validity period. Do not plan a second arrival on the assumption that it creates a fresh allowance. Check your permission and ask immigration about any multi-country itinerary before booking it.

The same notice directs visitors seeking more than 30 days to the official extension service, with an applicable fee. Our extension overview is a starting point; a longer stay needs the appropriate official decision.

Keep a short holiday manageable

Count usable days after allowing for flight times and the return transfer. For a long weekend, choose one main base and leave a spare block of time. For a full week, our 7-day culture route keeps the trip focused around Sigiriya and Kandy.

If you are travelling with children or older relatives, ask accommodation providers about room access, steps and arrival arrangements before paying. Treat a transfer day as part of the trip, rather than filling both ends with fixed appointments.

Your next practical steps

Read the application walkthrough and arrival document requirements, then use the saved checklist. Compare airport transfer options before the flight so your first decision after landing is already made.
