On this page
French passport holders are listed for the free 30-day tourist ETA. Complete the official application before arrival; keep tourism separate from any business or professional activity.
Choose the purpose before filling the form
This page addresses a holiday visit. If your trip includes a work assignment, journalism, volunteering or business meetings, check the relevant permission with Sri Lankan immigration or a mission. Do not use a tourism page to decide a different category.
Some official travel-advice summaries describe categories differently. The Sri Lankan ETA notice specifically concerns tourism; confirm any business fee or permission directly instead of inferring it from the tourist exemption.
Keep the passport and application consistent
Use the passport you will present at departure and arrival. If you renew it after applying, follow the passport-change guidance before travelling. Keep your application reference, approval and flight confirmation together in a secure offline folder.
A person living in France with another passport should check that passport’s route. Children also need their own review; see the family guide.
Read the French-language alerts
France Diplomatie’s Sri Lanka alerts provide current advice in French and link the Fil d’Ariane travel-registration service. Review the alerts close to departure and during a trip when conditions change.
On 27 October 2026 the page carried a severe-weather alert. Treat a seasonal itinerary as a framework, and use current local warnings when deciding whether to take an excursion or move between bases.
Plan a trip with room to adapt
Compare two weeks with three weeks, then choose the coast for your month. Save the money guide and rail-booking guide before making time-sensitive bookings.
