The short answer

Ireland is not on the current 40-country tourist exemption list. The general applicant-submitted tourist ETA fee for this category is US$50, subject to any applicable exemption and the live official schedule.

Irish and UK passports have different fee treatment

Do not use the United Kingdom’s entry on the exemption list for an Irish passport. Your departure airport, home address or journey through Britain does not change the passport nationality entered in the application.

If you hold more than one citizenship, settle which valid travel document you will use and keep the airline, ETA and arrival records consistent. Resolve uncertainty with the relevant authorities before applying.

Apply on the official service

Read the latest notice at eta.gov.lk, select the appropriate purpose and review the charge shown before payment. A private assistance charge is separate from the government fee.

Keep the application reference and official outcome. Our status page covers pending, referred and missing-email situations. The processing guide explains why an acknowledgement is not approval.

Families and longer visits

Check a child’s eligibility separately using the children and families guide. Do not assume every traveller pays the same amount simply because the family is leaving together.

If your intended stay is longer than the initial permission, review extension procedures and obtain official guidance before relying on an extended holiday. A fee paid for an initial application is not an unlimited stay.

Keep Irish travel advice close to hand

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs advice covers travel preparation and routes for consular assistance. Use its current contacts rather than assuming there is a full Irish embassy in Colombo.

For the holiday itself, compare 10 days with two weeks. Check the travel month before selecting a beach, and leave a departure buffer.
